My Mentoring services:
Videotaped Feedbacks
I offer video-taped feedback to any interpreters at all levels. Normally, I give out a story on an audio tape to the signer. (And I will have the script to myself so I know exactly the word choices used in the story).
Then the signer will videotape herself/himself interpreting the tape. The stories are usually about 3 to 5 minutes in length, yet my feedback averages 30 minutes long!
The tape is then mailed to me (or given to me face to face if you happen to meet me), and it is evaluated. I will then videotape myself giving "feedback", both postive and constructive, in front of my T.V. (which is playing your tape). This enables you to see EXACTLY what, or when, the feedback is given for crystal clear clarification. You will have your original tape back, PLUS an additional tape of MY feedback. This allows you the option to continue by having a "re-do" session at a different price.
In a "group", if several tapes are submitted from an agency (such as interpreting services wanting to evaluate their interpreters, etc), each tape (original plus my feedback tape) is "sealed" across the edges, so the signers can feel confident that no one else has seen their work. Confidentiality is essential for a signer to feel they are involved in a safe envirnoment.
Of course, the signers CAN share the tapes with anyone they so wish to, including the feedback tapes.

Mentoring One on One (face to face)
I have worked with several interpreters, teachers, and parents with face to face mentoring. All spectrum of skill levels are welcome to work with me. Some people wanted to improve on their music translation from English to ASL, some wanted to work on facial expressions (Non Manual Markers- NMM's), some wanted to learn more sign language, and some just wanted to know more about Deaf culture.
I work closely with each individual to cater to his/her needs, goals, wishes and to develop a "program" for their needs. My ability to sign a wide variety of SEE, PSE, ASL, and CASE (my preferred mode is CASE= Conceptually Accurate Signed English) makes me "signer-friendly" and easy to understand.
I have privately mentored individual signers, parents and families. Having three young children myself, I am comfortable working in any situation and with any age. I have also taught classes that have ranged from 10-50 students. These students had a variety of skill levels, which made for an entertaining challenge.
Also, if we are unable to meet in person, maybe we could do our sessionis via videotape. I am very flexible and will work with your needs and schedule.
I look forward to working with you!
